It’s mid-November in week 11
with only three regular season games left, but the PSAS playoffs picture is
still quite murky, partially thanks to the new school-less league
structure. There are six playoffs
spots with eight teams having very realistic chances of making it. The playoffs bye? That’s just too much.
Obviously each game is as important as any, week in and week out, but
the wins and losses will somehow bare more weights on each team’s psyche now. The thing is, we may not even get any
team to clinch anything this week.
For such uncertain states, remember Sun Tzu's teachings and remain as
calm as the mountain.
(1) Trichotillomaniacs (6-4) vs (10) The Goslings (5-5)
The feather-plucking unit of the Far East Brigade eagerly awaits
the match against the Goslings, with the Babybirds' playoffs hope for the
inaugural season and the Trichs' quest for the playoff first round bye on the
line.
The Trichs cruised by the Mustard Yellow in yet another Toyota
blow-out fashion, and is two games above .500 for the first time this
season. Marshall showcased his
talent in week 10 with 25+pts performance to lead the General's troops. Orange Julius is also securing his spot
in the elite-TE club, recording a 74yd TD reception (14.4pts in one play) in
the first Denver possession.
Carolina D stifled Kaepernick and didn't allow Gore to get to the
endzone in another dominant performance that is becoming routine for them. The General will be happy the
cannibalism within the team is over, and expects Kap to have a decent game
against New Orleans. Vernon's
concussion issue in SF will be closely monitored by the Far East Crew with
Kap's production significantly dropping in the TE's absence. Workhorse Stacy is on much needed bye
this week, and with Ridley and the Pats facing Carolina D, the General is
likely turning to MJD for RB2 help behind Gore. With multi-front offensive (and defensive) firepowers and an
unequivocal depth in each skill position except for QB, it'd take failures of
epic proportions to slow down these Mongols.
The Goslings kept the life-support plugged in for another week
with a convincing win over the Bloodz to get back to .500. Luck was so-so in failing to get to the
endzone in Indy's blowout loss to Tavon Austin (who, during his bye, has joined
the birds lineup). The backfield
tandem McCoy and Bell were, and has been, true one-two punches here, but the
receivers, tight end and the flex corp stayed rather punchless. With A-Rodg-less Nelson and Green Bay
offense struggling to score points, Roddy White, who was shut-down by Seattle
secondary in his week 10 return, look to provide some spark to the stagnant
group. With bottom-five points
total, the Goslings need to win out the remaining three games, and win out big
to even have a slight chance for considerations. Luck's bounce back is a must to score big, especially in a
match against juggernaut Hairpullers.

(t-3) Polk High Panthers (7-3) vs (13) Dijonnaise All-Stars (5-5)
In this battle of former landlord and tenant, both teams look to
stop their two-game slides.
While still atop the leader board as a lone-seven-win team, Al
Bundy's squad is struggling of late as it lost two games in a row for the first
time this season. Big Ben replaced
struggling Matt Ryan at QB, but failed to crack double-digit in week 10. AJ and Megatron did their thing and
each scored 20+ pts, but against red-hot Ferries their effort wasn't
enough. T-Gonz finally showed some
age in the matchup against Seattle secondary. With Reed once again going over 10pts on the bench, the time
for his takeover at tight end may be imminent. Bundy has handful of receiver options to cover the flex
position as well, but the backfield situation is without much upside as it
always has been this season. AJ
and Megatron are the pillars of this team, but in future matches against upper
echelon of the league that might not be enough.
The Grey Poupon hiccuped in epic proportions in the week 10
against the Trichs. Leaving three
New England players on bye on the lineup cannot all account for the Yellow
churning out the league's season low 31.65pts. There were two goose eggs laid out by the RB and TE
positions. There was that no one
scored over five points, period.
It looked like Colonel Mustard quietly folded his cards, not realizing
the consequence (as Monique likes to say, actions have consequences). The league is hoping that this is not a
case of Primordial Stylitis. The
early signs are there though.

(4) ThePelicanBrief (6-4) vs (5) TakingTigerMountain (6-4)
A face-off between two 6-4 franchises has a large playoffs
implications on the line. The
Brief looks to avoid another skid; the Mountain is trying to build on its
stylez treatment of week 10. The
winner of this match will be in good shape to extend the competition to beyond
week 13; the loser will be dancing at the edge of fantasy purgatory.
The Legal Thrillers were a victim of two in-game injuries in week
10. Locker in fill-in duty for
Brady was knocked out of the game after throwing an interception, resulting in
dreadful negative points from the QB spot. Vernon Davis was concussed early and left the game without
much production as well. The two
shouldn't carry all the blame, as no player of the roster cracked double-digit
save for Chris Long who picked up a loose ball and ran into the endzone for a
defensive TD. While the Titans
Kendall Wright and, to some extent, CJ?K managed to put some points on the
board for the Grishamites, the Pelican is happy to not rely on the Tennessee
Waltzers and have Tom Brady back as the starting QB. It remains to be seen if he can pick up where he left off
before the bye or the miser that couldn’t
crack five pts will return, especially with the Pats facing stingy Carolina
front seven in Charlotte for a Monday night showdown. Brady's long-time partner in crime Welker, as well as Hakeem
Nicks, need to come up big in week 11 with contending TigerMountain looking to
secure their own playoff berths.
The Mountain sweated a little bit in their stylez treatment during
the day on Sunday in week 10, but with much of the production coming during the
Sunday night game by Brees and Graham and more points coming on Monday, the
outcome was never in doubt.
Although Brees played superbly and Pierre Thomas got two TDs to
compliment, the connection between Brees and Graham was absent. There are bigger concerns here. Mike James's injury puts more pressure
on Spiller to produce, but he's nowhere near the level of elite back that he
was in 2012. It maybe time to roll
out the stash in Vereen, but the Pats are facing Carolina and it's hard to
predict the production of a guy fresh out of the infirmary. Mike Wallace doesn't seem to be
enjoying the South Beach culture (or is enjoying it too much), and isn't really
Tannehill's go to guy (which in week 10 was Kaepernick's college target slot
guy). Brees and Co need to put up
some points against tough San Fran defense this week with some uncertainties
looming around the Mountain.

(t-2) SanFranciscoFerries
(6-4) vs (6) Tusken Raiders (6-4)
The Sand People try to make the speedboat Ferries go across the
desert in this 6-4 showdown with major playoffs implications.
The Fearless Ferries seem unstoppable now, as they knocked off
top-ranked Panthers stylishly in week 10.
As many good fantasy teams do, they got points from all phases of the
game. The Ferries management got
the QB titration right this time, with Wilson securing 21+pts. The backfield committee of Bush, Lacy
and Moreno scored over 30 pts combined to power the boat, while the receivers
did their part to manage the fuels.
Cincy D has also been a weekly solid contributor. The Boatmen missed TE production in
Gronk's bye absence, but his return this time shouldn't be as stallion-teasing
as the last time. The Pats are
playing tough Carolina D on MNF, so his production may not be there, but the
Ferries don't lack other weapons to get to the otherside of the Tatooine desert
with not much problem. We'll see
if they can extend the streak to lucky 7.
The Raiders ground out a win over BDT in Jamaal Charles's bye
thanks to a decent game by RGIII and D-Jax. Danny Woodhead was the only other Tusken Raider to score in
double digits, so they are happy to have Charles back in Tatooine. The Sand People also won the Nick Foles
sweepstakes, which gives them a nice Philly double-titration cannon. There's still a margin for improvement
at the tight end and DST positions, especially if the Raiders want to survive
the planetary war that is fantasy playoffs. But the Sand People aren't looking ahead, with formidable
Ferries visiting the Great Sarlacc Pit of Carkoon this week. With the regular season finale against
the Mighty Panthers looming around the corner and several teams behind in
rankings looking to take their coveted playoffs spot, the Raiders looks to win
this tough matchup this week to give themselves some room to breath.

(7) Phat Girlz (6-4) vs (12) HomeSpunNeckBloodz (4-6)
The Bloodz are playing the part of spoilers for the Girlz here
with their own playoffs hope all but obliterated. Still, this is no gimme and is a dangerous week 11 match.
The Girlz got a much-needed win over the Pelican, thanks in many
part to the help that Monique got from the opponent injury situations. Her own QB, WR, and RB did score nearly
20 pts each, but that was pretty much the bulk of her production. Monique is happy that Sproles's
production has picked up again, but two IDPs Lee and Posluszny that have
silently but steadily held this team's foundation has gone down with
injuries. Monique historically
preferred to not shuffle around the roster too much, but the enigmatic bitch
will have to this time around, especially with her playoffs dream on the
line. There are some racial
tensions brewing in the dress room here.
Miami's hazing issue is affecting Miller's production to Monique's
disgust. And she picked up Riley
Cooper off waivers last week.
While he bid his nails on the bench in the match against the Brief, this
week Monique may be ready to see how racist he can be on her lineup.
The Bloodz' playoffs dream 2013 is almost in the brinks now
following their loss to the expansion Goslings. Only newly-minted Houston double-titration had much of
production in the loss while their star players Forte and V-Jax both
lowballed. They are still a
dangerous team, evidenced by the explosive game they showcased in week 9
against the Trichs. With three
games remaining all against playoffs hopefuls (girlz, TTM and Grossman), the
Bloodz can play the perfect spoilers.

(8) GrossmanSachs (5-5) vs (14) Pr1m0rdi4lLyfestylez (0-10)
Finally the bankerz can relax a bit in this roller-coaster season
with the team facing the stylez.
With the kind of luck they are having, some craziness can still happen.
When we look back at this season two months from now, the
Grossman's week 10 win over the Nauts may be defined as an important
juncture. The bankerz won the
seemingly difficult game handily and, with a second-highest points scored for
for the season, is probably the only 5-5 team still in the hunt for the playoffs
spot. This was another all around
nice game where 6 players were in double digits. Boasting a lineup without much holes and a solid depth, this
team is built to withstand the lengthy season and can face some key injuiries
(kow) in the coming crucial weeks.
Such are the teams that are dangerous and can go a long way in the
playoffs. The Grossman by no means
have gotten there, and the road is not easy especially with the history of
hiccups the Commish’s team
has demonstrated this season. But
the remaining schedule is relatively friendly as they welcome the Lyfestyle
treatment this week.
Let's hope a case of virus is not spreading around the league |
For a while, the week 10 score of the Stylez game looked like a
miracle in the brewing. But then
the g0dz aren’t that forgiving. In the end the stylez were handed their
tenth straight loss. No team has
gone winless in the history of PSAS, but this dejection is very much on the
horizon now.

(9) AEthernauts (4-6) vs (11) BldgDW3LL1NGTh1nk1n (4-6)
Two teams that are all but mathematically eliminated from the
playoffs chase play for the pride in this matchup. These franchises were victims of some misfortune, but in
general have been having respectable seasons so far. This would have been a good NFC double-titration match
between Carolina and Dallas, but Dez-Romo is on bye.
The Nauts were in triple digits but the bankerz' week’s best was too much to
handle. Carolina’s match against the
Niners in week 10 was a pure defensive slugfest, the kind Sun Tzu really
enjoys, but for Newton (and Kap) it was the closest thing to a nightmare. His lowballing spoiled wonderful
performances by the backfield, especially with super-stash Andre Brown going
for nearly 18pts in his 2013 debut.
Bennett started the season fantastically but has been rather quiet of
late, especially after the Chicago bye/ankle injury in week 8. The Sky elected to start Lance Moore in
favor of limping and slumping Colston, but the move took away over 15 pts for
the team. This week, the travelers
will withhold the bulk of production for MNF showdown between the Pats and
Panthers. Judging from Cam’s ability to show
inconsistencies out of blue and New England’s ability to play solid defense out of blue, the Nauts better lack
up some points on Sunday.
The Boys in Chico are beyond desperado now. They couldn’t build on their nice
week 9 win over Polk High. In
their must-win week 10 showdown with the Raiders, Boys’ stars Romo and Dez got
lost somewhere in Mos Eisley’s
French Quarter. Only the kicker
and TY Hilton got double digits, and the Philosophers got the season’s low score for the team
on probably the most important game.
Rice and Pierce are in a friendly committee situation in Baltimore, but
that doesn’t help things in
Chico. With Romo-Dez on bye,
fantasy journeyman Tannehill will fill in at QB. The receivers Hilton, Amendola and Tim Wright will have to
all do their parts to replace Dez’s
titrative presence.
