Week 13 Recap

 

 

Fittingly, it was unnecessarily thrilling for the regular season finale.  The Phat Girlz regain uptown top ranking with a convincing whipping of the pesky Pelican looking for the regular-season shocktop wrapup, while AEthernauts lose a close one to TakingTigerMountain.  The Tiger Dojo secures the third-seed with the win, while Dijonnaise All-Stars grabs the fourth seed after taking care of the red-hot SanFranciscoFerries who finishes snuggly at sixth seed.  BuildingDW3LL1NGTh1nk1ng gets the five seed after dropping one to the Shock_Pix.  It was all jumbles everywhere and we didn't know who goes where for a while, but in the end it all sort of makes sense.  It's going to be Girz vs DAS/BDT and Nauts vs TTM/SFF in Week 15. 

 

 

Moral Victory was equally if not more exciting.  Polk High Panthers captures the chocolate, thanks to another Ryan, Ryan Fitzpatrick.  But three other teams, the Old Future, ThePelicanBrief and the Trichotillomaniacs, all fought until the tuff gong. 

 

Fading out is actually more pleasant and is my preferred way of exiting, so the quietness of the market and casino for the finale was actually nice.  I mean, players at this point can be had with desire and not much more, so yeah, that's that.  I'm not even going to look up TD Vulture or Pick 4.  Curiosity loses.  I mean, I choose Sanchez because he's on my roster and easy to look up.  The Public Funds Index is at 555, so maybe five is the lucky number (BDT?).

Ok that was painful.  Butt-fumble week.  Started with that constipation of an early game STL-DEN and dragged on.  I heard MNF was exciting, sorry to have missed that.  I was in my room doing push-ups and sit-ups.  Ah, I see that Yahoo tells us four teams (Nauts, Girlz, TTM and Dijon) have clinched playoffs spot.  Congrats, ladies and gents!  Two more teams, BDT at 7-4 and Ferries at 6-5 are both at magic number 1 and most likely will round-out the post-season field.  Bloodz at 5-6 and lacking points have to win out and have lots of help (bribery accepted this week @ commish office).  Old Future is also uneliminated, though remains being a very long-shot. 

Just to let you know, this week I'll be fairly absent from football until Sunday.  It's my bye week.  I'll fulfill minimum managerial and commissioner duties but not much.  It's timely since there's a lot of explanation to do for General.

Week 10 Recap

Apologies for delayed post.  I was riding my CitiBike down Bleecker St this morning when this truck came out of no where and almost killed me because I don't wear a helmet.  I took a picture of the truck in preparation for a litigation.  Here it is!

In stark contrast to the madness that was Week 9, Week 10 passed relatively calmly.  Phat Girlz went down to BDT for the third straight loss and probably will lose the Uptown Top Ranking, but the rest of the results were dictated mostly by standings (well except for Pelican beat down of Pullers).  Barring something crazy, five teams above .500 (Nauts, Girlz, TTM, Dijon, and BDT) will make the playoffs, with Nauts one leg up in the race for first-round bye.  The .500 club of Ferries and Bloodz will battle for the last playoffs spot, but the road is rough for both franchises.  SFF face BDT, Trix and Dijon for the final three regular season games, while Bloodz have TTM, BDT and Trix on the plate.  Because of the tough road ahead for both 5-5 teams, the quartet of 3-7 teams still have chances if they can win out the rest of the season.  And as crazy as it sounds 2-8 Bundys aren't mathematically eliminated just yet either (imagine a 5-8 team in the playoffs).  In the market, in part due to lack of upsets, in part due to the market's timidity following last week's near explosion and in part due to dwindling talent pool in waiver-market as the mega bye storm passes through town, not much happened and more was actually taken out.  A needed correction for the final leap, it seems.  The season is by no means close to being over, which means injuries will happen (ala Carson City) and waiver money demand sure will pick up (ala Brandon Jacobs).  Do we hear, Manziel, ehm, Tebow?

Punters are punters for a reason.  Actually.., I don't really have much to say here.  It was a punt kind of a week for me anyways.  So, here are the results.

In a week with not much activity in the stock market, lack of upsets hit investors hard with many of derivatives featuring underdogs.  The result is a major down-turn for those that were bullish.  Some franchises wisely stayed put, so the damage was rather contained, except where the bleeding didn't stop.

Week 9 Recap

 

 

Another nail-biting finish to MNF thrillers in the PSAS wrap up an exciting week that was Week 9.  Three of the top-4 upper echelon teams went down to the underdogs while TigerMountain joins the top-tier with a beat down of the Uptown Girlz.  Bottom-of-food-chain Pelican and Trichs contributed to the mess by beating the Dwellers and the Condiments respectively.  Polk High got the moral-boosting win behind Big Ben's 6 TD night in as many weeks, and we finally saw a week where the parity trend finally reversed.  On the market side, the investors were just a mere 2-pts-by-Bloodz away from being actuated a bail-out fashion 100 bankerbytez freebie payoff.  Still, with upsets abound, those who were bullish on the dogs in Week 9 all got solid returns on their investments as the market as a whole had the biggest gain of the season since Week 2.

PSAS's Weekly Fan-pick

That was fun, our new pickin's game except I picked mostly Broncos so it wasn't too fun for me.  I won't pick three from the same team again and I won't proclaim Orange Crush back again, but I could totally see that game or its variation making a come-back in the future.  The highest scoring combination was B. Roethlisberger, J. Maclin, J. Hill, and R. Gronkowski.  Our winner is Colonel Mustard, who picked two out of the four best performers (Maclin and Gronk).  While his league-leading winning streak was stripped, his drained waiver money gets a restock so he can pay for Amukamara replacement mei yo wenti.

There's odds, and there's odds.  After pay-schedule restructure, the aim was to refrain from over pumping the waiver market with free money.  Week 9 results could have easily blew that policy out the window, almost handing out Benjamin Franklins left and right.  In the end, it wasn't meant to be and nothing crazy like that happened.  But just a reminder, if you don't play, you won't get paid.  And those who played, you got served.

Week 8 Recap

 

 

And then there were none, finally.  And the curse is over, finally. 

In a week full of competitive matches throughout the league, Phat Girlz went down to the Old Future riding behind unlikely heroes of Knile Davis and Miami DEF while the Trix beat Ben-sanity and Polk High to lift the curse of Burt Reynolds from the Celebrity Jeopardy stock derivative.  Props to Future for starting Knile on the day he returned a kickoff for a TD and scored another on the ground, though the decision was out of necessity more than anything.  And despite the loss, Bundy was rewarded for his faith in Big Ben after two consecutive lackluster performances and almost came up with the second win of the season.  We should no longer consider Dijon a cinderella, after the Mustards held off BDT and retained firm grip of their playoffs aspiration. 

And just like that, we have just come to the turning point of the 2014 season.  Things will pick up now in the race to the playoffs, just as the mega-load of bye teams start in Week 9.  Six teams will be on bye for each of the next two weeks and four teams on Week 11, just as it comes to fantasy crutch time.  Teams probably have been preparing for this for awhile with increased spending in waivers, as half of the league has less than 40 bankerbytes left in their wallet, and three have less than 25.  If you are counting on pulling off some trades to fill gaps in the lineup during bye weeks, just a friendly reminder that the PSAS trade deadline is in November 14, that's in two weeks and a change.

Screaming Target

There were some elite WR performances throughout the week while the Goliathes of that position is away.  Antonio Brown is proving he's the number one WR of 2014, amassing 13 targets by Big Ben.  Jeremy Maclin lead the league in targets with 16 and celebrated with a Gatorade shower, which meant no refund for us.  Across the pond, Stafford targeted Golden Tate 15 times to land the Nauts their much-awaited casino prize.

Week 7 Recap

Some games are still too close to call

That was Week 7, the mid-point of the season.  Wow.  I mean.  Wow.

What a crazy week.  Six teams are still holding their breath, waiting for that dreaded Tuesday-Thursday recalculation (just ask the AEthernauts what that's like) as three matches were decided by 3 pts or less.  As it stands now, it's still the undefeated Phat Girlz at top, who will all but clinch playoffs berth with one more win.  BDT, who took care of business against Trix, are right behind at 6-1 and have the first-round bye in sight, while Nauts, who closely lost to the Girlz in the most anticipated game of the year, and Dijon, who beat TigerMtn in what turned out to be the game of the year, are comfortably in the chase at 5-2.  Three teams are bunched at 4-3, and if things go accordingly, one of these teams (TTM, SFF, Bloodz) will be left out of the big dance.  Five teams below .500 mark, all with 5 losses or more, have the remotest of chances at this point, though no team can be ruled out just yet thanks to Pelican finally cracking the Win column.  One team did make the playoffs at 7-6 last year, and as a sixth seed that team went on to become the 2013 Champion.  So all bets are still on.

The market saw little activity, but injuries keep piling up, opening up fantasy opportunities for previously unheralded FA/waiver dwellers.  We'll likely see a heavy dose of transactions with mega bye-weeks starting at Week 9 just around the corner, but some teams' waiver budget well is starting to dry up. 

Yardiez

No one picked QBs that went over 300 ydz (we'll give benefit of doubt to Pelican that his comment wasn't a misspell of Luck who threw for league-leading 344 ydz in Week 7).  Matthew Stafford had the near-pin with 299 ydz while Kyle Orton, who honest to god was going to be my choice until I chickened out, had 283 ydz.  Refund candidate Peyton went over 300 and couldn't help us while Tony Romo helped the Boyz to a big pay-dirt.

Week 2 Recap

While trash-talking was more chit-chat during Rivalry Week 2014 reflecting the niceness of people involved in PSAS, actual matches were nothing but.  First half of Battle of Brooklyn proved as brutal as it was for the Brits back in 18th century, and we are lucky to be able to observe this for another week.  Injury is also piling up as quick as Staten Island landfills, with much of it happening in first-half to star players that landed several franchises crucial (near-) gooseeggs that impacted the matches significantly.  We expect to see major activity in the waiver market in Week 3. 

After two weeks, TigerMountain and PhatGirlz are the teams to beat at 2-0 while defending champs Trix are 0-2.  Nauts and BDT, both at 2-0 as well, are the pretenders looking to be contenders.


TD vulture

No one picked JJ Watt, who had the best possible TD vulture outcome of 1 yd, 1 TD.  John "Vulture King" Kuhn's lone carry, also for 1 yd, came mid-field and didn't result in TD unfortunately.  In the end, only one franchise picked a player that scored a TD and was eligible to win.

The second week of market saw gains for all franchises that participated with the freebie derivative mini Bless Di Wildcats hitting for 20 bb.  Asian market showed mixed results, and Team Formerly Known As James was a clear winner this week.  With more money (+168) put into the market by the public funds in week 2, the "old cliche: you lose if you don't play" is true-er than ever.

While derivatives for sale didn't hit, one of the freebies hit to lubricate the waiver market.  I told you it was a matter of time.

We had 5 participants in the Casino Gulag Pick 6 this week at 5000 PRN each. With a couple upsets and some significant pick clustering the success rate was pretty low. Let's go to the numbers:

CGG Week 4 Recap

Only three players in this weeks Pick 6. The buy in was 5,000. In consideration of the bizarre tie situation and low participation, the winnings will be collected from 75%, take since otherwise both "winners" would still be negative for the week. That's (625 net for both winners). 3750 will be rolled into the big pot making a grand total of 30,000 bonus for a perfect set.

No one hit all six as everybody picked against the Bankers. The buy-in was 7500. So the pot is 15,000 (7500 net) awarded to the pauper JGPB. The remaining 15000 is rolled into the jackpot for next week (26250). In order to encourage participation, next week will buy-in will be scaled back to 5000.

The Game of the Week challenge was clearly too easy this week as everybody who played won. 5k was the betting limit. So, 5k awarded to Trichs, TTM, GS, SFF. I'll be taking suggestions as to Week 4's challenge. So let me know what you think...
