Week 7 marks the midpoint of fantasy regular season. This is sink or float week for many franchises, especially with the bye-heavy weeks 8 and 9 approaching. There were some major spending done in the waiver wire, but the impact of the stimulus is still unclear. The middle-heavy league standings and the muddy playoff picture should get some clarity after this week. As for the Master, he’s also hanging with the crowd in the middle (3-4 in week 6, 18-17 overall), but after this week, it’s none-stop blazing fire. So ladies in punny printer, waaatch out.
(1) ThePelicanBrief (4-2) vs
(8) Trichotillomaniacs (3-3)
Two of the hottest teams in PSAS
square off in a week 7 showdown. Kap
throwing to Vernon. The battle of
Broncos receivers (Decker & Julius vs Welker). There’s plenty of hype in this one.
Riding a league-leading three
game winning streak and atop the p0w3r r4nk1ngs, the Legal Thrillers are poised
to stay the course. The Grishamites came
out of the lyfestyle treatment last week with over 120 pts scoring. The 49ers are simplifying their offense to just
passing to Vernon Davis off fake hand-off and actually handing off to Frank
Gore and Co., resulting in Vernon scoring a whopping 31pts last week. In Denver it seems the second touchdown pass
of the game by Peyton Manning is always to Wes Welker. Outside of these two and the Seattle defense,
things are a bit dicey for the Pelicans.
Tom Brady keeps winning games for the Pats but in a better game
management mode than in years past, which may change if and ever Gronk comes
back. Cobb was sent to the IR, leaving
the Brief a tough decision. Will they
keep him on roster for next year or drop him to the waiver/draft pool. CJ?K and Hakeem Nicks are simply underperforming. Hit or miss is the characteristic description
of both Andre Ellington and Kenbrell Thompkins.
Against the red-hot hair pullers, the Thrillers surely need them to hit.
The Trichs produced the highest
scoring total of the week 6 against BDT thanks to a balanced scoring from all
phases of the game. Newly-acquired
Brandon Marshall got his wishes and scored 20+ pts with 2 TDs while Keenan
Allen was the MNF darling with a 16.7 pt performance. Old-timers MJD got to the endzone (although
somewhat slowly) and Gore rushed for over 100 yards again. Orange pullers Decker and Julius were rather
quiet, but Manning still found Thomas in the endzone. The kicker Crosby had the best output of the
week among kicker position with 16 pts plus a decent team D and IDP plays
(except egg-laying by JJ Watt) and the benching of underwhelming Anquan Boldin
resulted in Trichs scoring almost 140.
Vick is still injured, so Kap is still a go here in week 7, but Boldin
will warm the bench again with Keenan’s emergence. Ridley finally showed up in week 6 and could
replace aging MJD in the line-up. With
no significant bye to speak of this week with DMC gone, overall the Far East
Crew will look to keep the momentum from previous weeks.

(2) Polk High Panthers (5-1) vs
(3) TakingTigerMountain (4-2)
Both teams are coming off tough
losses in week 6 and look to bounce back with the expense of the other.
PHP couldn’t overcome missing the
ATL engine in week 6 and lost a tough one to the girlz. Alex Smith is a great game managing QB and
the Chiefs keep winning, but in fantasyland he couldn’t keep the winning streak
for the Panthers going. Good news; AJ
came alive in a big way and week 6 is over.
Now they get the Atlanta duo back, though in ATL Ryan (of Matt) is missing
his other receivers to throw to so the passing game there may suffer. The Panther backfield is producing enough
points, but with the strength of the aerial attack in doubt, the Panthers have
to fight hard to avoid slipping two weeks in a row down to mediocrity. Against TTM, it’s a daunting task.
The Mountain men lost a thriller
to the Yellow Condiments in week 6 and have now dropped two in a row. Jimmy Graham went to the locker-room in the
first half and started his bye a week early.
Drew Brees played ok without Graham, but other than him only WR Terrence
Williams and LB Alec Ogletree managed a touchdown. Now Brees and New Orleans are on bye, which
is good news only to the ailment of Graham’s leg. The team is banking on Nick Foles getting
involved in a Texas-sized shootout against Dallas this week but this is a no
guarantee. Speedy Johnson is returning
amid some questions on and off the field.
Speaking of, LB Von Miller makes his 2013 debut in Mountain uniform this
week. At least Ryan Mathews showed some
flashes on MNF, but in a way this only adds more to the difficulty of making
decisions for the Mountain folks this week.

(3) Dijonnaise All-Stars (4-2) vs
(t-9) GrossmanSachs (2-4)
The records of these two teams
are the mid-season surprise of 2013.
Colonel Mustard must be a good
general manager after all; his team keeps finding ways to squeak by
thrillers. Last week it was against
perennial contender TTM. This week he
hopes it’s the bankerz’ turn. The road
is not easy for the Poupon Grey, as there are some injury concerns. A-Rodg is losing his targets right and left,
with Cobb placed on IR and James Jones in Mustard Yellow banged up and status
game-time-decision mode. Fitz finally
had a game worthy of WR1 status in week 6 but the hammy is still an issue plus
the Cardinals play Thursday night … against Seattle. Oakland is on a bye in a week Denarius
Moore’s service is required for the Yellow.
The receivers used to be the strength of this team, but this week it’s
filled with question marks. Beyond
Foster who’s still b345ting in Houston, the backfield is sketchy (Mike Tolbert
can’t be expected to vulture 2 TDs every week) and Colonel’s troops still lack
a legitimate tight end with Pettigrew losing out to the dancer guy in MoTown. With not much depth to speak of in any of the
positions, this is probably the week that we finally see what the Mustards are
really made out of.
GrossmanSachs, oh boye. Even without many Ws in the column, at least
they were scoring in the stratosphere until week 5. This week thePelicanBrief took over as the
league’s highest scoring total offense after the bankerz lowballed in week 6. The bankerz came down to earth in netting
only 93 pts, maybe just to refuel a bit, but the result was a same old loss. Manning, AP, Gates and Jeffery all arranged
their lowballing to happen on the same week, which, in a way, works out since
you can only lose once in a week. All of
them are expected to bounce back in week 7, but the way things are going for
Grossman, it may be Gordon, Blackmon and/or Gio’s turn to lowball this
week. With the load of talent they have,
they can afford one or two lowballing, but the kicker and defense can’t keep
dragging the team’s feet with 1 point/negative points performances. Master Sun still expects this team to be in
the playoffs, but there’s a sense of urgency looming in the commissioner’s
office nowadays.

(5) Tusken Raiders (4-2) vs
(t-6) Phat Girlz (3-3)
Both teams are fresh off a win in
week 6 and looks to keep the upward momentum.
The coveted A-class blue chip status is just within reach.

The Sand People scored over 120
again despite having Julio out on a bye.
Of course they’ve known for two weeks now that he’s pretty much done for
the year. Last week the combo of Jerome
Simpson and DeAndre Hopkins filled in, and quite frankly the void wasn’t really
filled by them. There was a handful of
good IDP scoring. D-Jax and Jamaal
Charles lead the league in scoring in their respective positions. With RGIII facing a tough Chicago D this
week, D-Jax and Charles will have to keep pulling the banthas through the
deserts of Tatooine if they want to fight off the pesky Girlz.
Monique and the girlz should be
commended for handing PHP their first losing ticket of 2013. With several franchises utilizing children
and their future to promote their cause, someone had to hand them the
slip. Who better than Monique for the
job; she probably has no reservation calling babies names or using fists here
and there to get a point across. They
did so with Stafford’s best game of 2013, a timely Kyle Rudolph TD and a rare Posluszny
pick-6 off Peyton Manning despite Cecil Shorts leaving game due to injury. Garcon and Sproles weren’t spectacular, and
D-Bowe is still D-Bowe-ing. Ben Tate got
a vulture TD but otherwise is losing touches to Foster, though you never know
with Shanahan-disciple Kubiak what he does with the backfield each week. There are some injury concerns here with
Shorts doubtful to play this week and David Wilson still nursing the neck, plus
New Orleans and Sproles are on bye.
Other than Stafford and Lamar Miller back from bye on the beach in Miami,
there’s no sure scoring option for the girlz this week.

(t-6) BldgDW3LL1NGTh1nk1ng (3-3) vs SanFranciscoFerries (2-4)
This battle of two Chris’s in
California is a season defining one for these franchises. A win here will build momentum moving
forward, a loss is a beginning to the tough second half.
In week 6, the Chico boyz had a
great jump start on Thursday night with Tim Jennings intercepting Eli
twice. One was returned for a pick-6 TD
to reward both Jennings and Chicago D, the other resulted in Brandon Marshall
TD for the Trichs. As it turned out,
these were the highlight of the week for the philosophers, as Romo and Dez were
stuck in a game-management game plan in Dallas.
To his credit, Romo is being a better game-manager and avoiding being
stupid this season, but, as per Alex Smith in SF/KC, good game-managing QBs don’t
translate well into fantasy football.
Romo and Dez low-balled, so did Ray Rice, TY Hilton and McGahee. DeAngelo picked up yardages on the ground and
through the air without finding the endzone, and Finley had a nice garbage time
40+yd reception to salvage otherwise a subpar Sunday. At the end of the week, only the Chicago D
triple titration played well enough in the loss to the hair pullers. This is a bounce-back week, but Amendola’s
hit to the head looked pretty bad so he’s still out. Romo and Dez are probably going to be in a
Texas-style shootout against Chip Kelley’s Phillies especially with DeMarco
Murray out with injury, but then will it be enough to handle the up and coming Ferries?
The Boatmen of the West Bay won
the second game in a row. Except for
week 1 loss, the Ferries are actually playing very well thanks to the potent
backfield committee of Bush, Morris and Knowshown. Knowshown is getting to endzone like crazy in
Denver, so much so that he’s actually pushed Lacy off to the bench, although
the future value of this rookie is a huge asset to the Ferries. With SD running game dominating on MNF,
Rivers had a so-so outing. The aerial
attack, especially the receivers, leaves something to be desired, but then this
is where Gronk is eventually to come back (maybe before the holidays?) and boost
this club. Knowshown will probably not
get into the endzone three times again this week, but the Ferries don’t lack
the weapons to knock off another contender.
-BDT even
(t-9) AEthernauts (3-3) vs
(13) the Goslings (2-4)
In this battle of two young
budding stars and their titration, the Big Sky faces the Little Birds. Cam and Carolina Panthers manhandled the
mourning Vikings, while Luck and Wayne were manhandled by the Chargers last
week. How the youngsters and their
veteran titration fair is the key of this match.
The Space Travelers had the
second highest scoring total of week 6 thanks to Cam Newton explosion on the
road. Steve Smith was a recipient of one
TD pass but was otherwise contained.
Lynch Mob did it again and had 27plus pts, and KC defense keeps
surprising everyone with a dominant performance week in and week out, putting
up 25pts this time. But the sky is not
all clear, with injury concerns to Lynch playing on Thursday night and DeMarco
clearly being held out this week. The
travelers went out and signed Murray-handcuff in Joseph Randle and paid a
premium for it (well not that much compared to “the signing”), but this guy is
a fifth-rounder. Rookie running backs
tend to have questions when it comes to blocking, but that is not a concern to
the Nauts (it is to BDT) as long as he can put up fantasy points. Underwhelming Colston is on a bye this week,
so they are also thin at the receiver position.
But probably Cam has it figured out now, and the Travelers can go far on
his back.
The Goslings were hopeful that
Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne would bail them out on MNF in week 6; didn’t
happen. Now they’ve dropped two in a row
and face the Nauts that is full of upward momentum. Shady McCoy didn’t find the endzone but was
still responsible for 16+ pts, and Jordy Nelson’s targets will clearly increase
now that Cobb and, possibly, Jones are out this week. Bilal Powell and Le’Veon Bell are still hit
or miss candidates. Regardless, this
team needs Luck (and Wayne), pure and simple.
Luckily, Indy plays Denver this week, so plenty of scores are expected
all around in the passing lanes. This is
going to be a close match.

(11) HomeSpunNeckBloodz (3-3) vs
(14) Pr1m0rdi4lLyfestylz® (0-6)
One of two longest losing streak
in PSAS will end with this match. Will
it be the spinnerz’ or stylz’? I’ve seen
the best of these two owners after they’ve gulped double-digit drinks, so they
can both hang, take the pound and still show what they are made out of.
The Spinnerz were victimized by
the Nauts in week 6. Jay Cutler was
re-inserted at QB and had a decent game.
Quietly Cutler is having a great season of real and fantasy football,
and kudos to the bloodz for picking up this bargain. V-Jax also played amicably in his return,
while Forte and Andre Johnson both did their share of scoring. The spinnerz just lack one or two pieces to be
a week-in-week-out contender in the bye season.
Until now. There’s a new $87 man
in town. His name is Brandon
Jacobs. He wears #34, no relation to the
one that celebrated after every two-yard runs a couple of years ago for the Blue. The master is not against spending,
especially in the stagnant PSAS economic climate anything that gets the wheel
spinning has merit. But...
Stylez lowballed for the second
week in a row and failed to crack 75 pts despite at least rallying up everyone in the
starting lineup to be on the field. Demarius
Thomas have been relatively quiet for Denver standard this season, and Doug
Martin and T-Rich couldn’t get to the endzone.
Dallas Clark had a one-week wonder coming out party but Schaub got hurt and was replaced
by Yates much to the rejoice of barbaric Houston fans. Ok, I’m just going to say this one out loud,
because it probably doesn’t matter anyways.
If it does, well, that’s the kind of seasons these two teams are
having. Hey B-Dawg, Schaub is not
playing this week!
