Week 5 saw the Milesian melt the Eleatic 5-1 in a spectrum of inter-league match-ups. We saw everything from great upsets to freak robo-beatdowns to Monday night thrillers. High-end scores were knocked down considerably with the first round of bye-weeks and offenses spreading the love. A new number one, a move to the middle and more of the same...this week on the power rankings...

12. Phat Girlz (0-5)
(last week 12)
The Girlz still can't catch a break, but aren't doing themselves any favors leaving valuable IDPs unfilled. Wasted were nice performances by Schaub & MJD. Denver's D, which sat the bench could have made the difference. But the Girlz opted to start the Eagles D against the Buffalo juggernaut. DeAngelo Williams had a nice look (including a 69 yard run) on the bench, for what it's worth.

Next Week - BDT - The Girlz could use a miracle, but a statement game could be enough to pull their season back from the edge.

11. dETHRONED_kING (1-3-1) - (last week T.10)

In what will surely go down as one of the most sad and bizarre PSAS match-ups in history. The kIng picked up his first victory with a resounding 58 points, triumphing over the largest fantasy fail of the year. Surely, the larger story is the kIngs failure to set lineups in a bye week. Clearly, the shock tie last week gave a touch of melancholia, but this was unexpected. Two offense positions were left unfilled, as well as a kicker (when there was one on the bench, who put up a respectable 12.4). And still, rebuking success, the Fatae handed a victory to the undeserving (although they may have taken away with the other hand). Are rumors of Tebow's arrival premature?

Next Week -Tusken Raiders - Both teams will face a spate of tough byes, but the kIng will have to return to his old form in order to beat a the Tusken crew. If he's a no-show again, go ahead and mark this one on the left side for TR.

T. 9. Cincinnati Dangles (2-3) (last week T. 10) -

The Dangles used some shocking motivational tactics to win their second game of the season, and score their biggest upset to date. The Dangles were good but not great - but that's all they needed to step up in week 5. We've been saying that this team has great consistency and can knock off anyone, any week. As is often the case in upsets, the underdogs got some key plays from unexpected places including the 49ers D/ST (22 pts) and Janikowski (20 pts) to lead the team. But it was a clutch touchdown catch from Jennings that put them over the edge though. It's a long road to the playoffs for an expansion team -- but you have to like the moxie of this newcomer.

Next Week - AEthernauts - With Fitzgerald and Tolbert on byes the Dangles will struggle to put together a 5th straight 100 pt game, unless they can pick up somebody from the wire.

T. 9 . Trichotillomaniacs (2-3) (last week T. 8) -

The Hair-pullers played a strong game on Sunday but came up short against the league's hottest team. San Francisco went off and Gore & Davis both had a big part. It's hard to take a loss when you put 5 out of 6 offense players in double digits, but those were the breaks for the Eleatic this week. Chaos in Denver's passing game may make Decker a bust going forward. In good news, Colston appeared to have regained his form, and will likely draw a start on Nicks' bye next week.

Next Week - Vix - It's a bye nightmare for the Trichs, who will take a good deal of medicine at once this week. Hightower will be back against Philly's pathetic run defense. There's a little counter-titration between the Niners pieces and Lions D/ST, but expect the Trichs to be there waiting when the Dawgs slip up.

T. 7. Vixkennel.com (2-3) (last week 3) -

The Dawgs imploded in memorable fashion Sunday, watching the R-burger shred their mix-match D/ST from their own bench. Freeman was massacred by the Niners D, Ryan Grant went backwards, and Keller & Williams both failed to make a catch. Even Monday night strength from Forte couldn't save them. For their sake we hope they got it out of their system all at once.

Next Week - Trichs - A must-win for both sides, Vix will have Rice back against a Pullers team with lots of holes to fill. The Dawgz will be looking for retribution in this one and should be back on top of their game.

T 7. Tusken Raiders (3-2) (last week T. 8) -

Los Bandidos de Tusk stopped the bleeding with a nice win over the Phat Girlz. Garcon had his second straight big week and led the team, who had decent but not amazing performances over most of the rest of the field. Vaugn led the IDPs with a big 12 spot. The Raiders are very much alive in the Milesian and, barring injury, are week to week a candidate for top-scorer.

Next Week - dk - Similar to week 5, the Raiders should simply play through this match-up without overt competition. However, you never know with the king. CJ and Nate Washington draw a bye, so they're not unbeatable.

T 5. GrossmanSachs (3-2) (last week 5)

The fantasy quagmire that is the Sachs put themselves in position and then got a heroic 22 from the J-B34ST to a comfortable victory. The mix-and-match defense struck again with a goose egg for waiver wire pick up Chiefs. Somehow Sidney Rice didn't get a piece of a big Hawks win, and the Sachs still pulled out a crucial victory. There's no telling how many hits Vick can take and continue to produce. It's possible that Greene might build on his best game so far, and if the Sachs can get Mendy on the mend they may be in for an upgrade.

Next Week - Ferries - With the Red Hot San Francisco treats at full strength, the Sachs will need to bring the wood to knock them off of the Milesian top spot.

T5. AEthernauts (3-2) (last week T. 6) -

The Nauts notched their third straight victory, a doozie over the Pelicans in the game of the week. Last year's darlings are living up to high expectations as a playoff contender. AP carried the team with a big 30 spot, but Bowe broke out, Eli stepped up. Everything went right for the Nauts to the point that they didn't need Megatron to nail down a Monday night victory. A 142 mark moves them into 3rd on the points scored list (they've also faced the 2nd most points, so the Nauts run might be for realz).

Next Week - Dangles - Fresh off their best upset ever, the Dangles should be fired up. They haven't failed to score 100 points yet, but this might be the week if they don't go to work on the wire. The Nauts have plenty of depth to hold their fellow Milesian upstarts back.

T. 3 The Pelican Brief (3-2) (last week T. 2) -

The Legal Thrillers came up short in the Game of the Week and got drowned by the AEthernauts. Nothing to be ashamed of here, really. Rodgers and Welker came back down to more reasonable ceilings, and a gamble with Ridley busted. Until Gates gets back the Pelicans are going to live and die by the R&W combo. In weeks where they are only great, PB will be beatable.

Next Week - TTM - The Pelicans can still ascend to a tie in the Eleatic with a victory here over their division rivals. The Tigers will suffer some hard-to-overcome byes. With a rash of favorable match-ups PB should be heavily favored.

T 3. BldgDwllngThnkng (2-2-1) - (last week T. 2)-
More Montag mojo for the German Philosophers, whose futures got sold short by the Junkbondsmen on MNF. Better to be lucky than good, the saying goes. But BDT is currently riding an emotional roller coaster. . Fred Jackson seems to be only hitting his stride now, while Stafford can't seem to consistently outplay Romo. The imminent return of Miles Austin makes them potentially the most dangerous team moving forward. Cheap mid-week pickups in Gresham and Steelers D/ST will only enhance their power.

Next Week - Phat Girlz - Facing 2011's hapless franchise, BDT would do well to stay awake and put up their 5th triple digit, or else face the ignominy of the upset.

2. Taking Tiger Mountain (4-1) (Last Week 1) -

The Tigers blew a big chance to widen their lead in the Eleatic, one which may well cost them the lead entirely next week. In a winnable contest, TigerMountain's luck finally ran out, and they fell short by a touchdown. Long-term, there's still lots to be excited about - Breesus has 12 TDs, Beanie is still outperforming expectations, Jimmy Graham is a top flight TE, and nobody has a season-ending injury yet. That being said, we still think they're more of a 5 or 6 in this league. Elite wide-receivers are like race horses and can be prone to nasty leg injuries. If the Tigers' stable catches the injury bug, this downgrade slope may become a cliff.
-
Next Week - PB - Playing for the lead in the Eleatic, the Tigers will be missing three starters and so they'll look to get some surprise performances from their handcuff collection on the bench. The Tigers have cash to spend, so they could try to buy the wire this week. Or they might gamble on another multiple titration.

1. SF Ferries (4-1) (last week 4) -

The Ferries are so far making good on their 12-1 brag, taking four straight from after their week 1 defeat. Zeus' thunderbolt joins the longest winning streak at 4. A particularly amped up performance, Newton, Green-Ellis and Cruz all topped 20. Cam Newton continues to redefine the position, and alter the course of time and space as we know it. Not bad for a 20k pick up. If he's the Tim Tebow of the NFL, will Tim Tebow be the next Cam Newton? Either way, Carolina's leaky defense and talented wideouts could make Newton the most successful QB1 replacement in PSAS history. It remains to be seen if this GM's move to the West Coast will negatively affect his titrations, but the East Coast is the lesser for the loss.

Next Week - Grossman - A prime-time match up with the Bankers should up the pressure on the Bay Area Boatmen, but they should be up to the challenge. They'll have Hillis back on the field in a good match-up against Oakland.
